Inspired to help others, Marian University hosts the Dr. Darold A. Treffert lecture series each year to share information about autism in children and adults, and has included topics such as behavioral and communication concerns, treatment and diagnostic techniques, and featured keynote speakers who live with autism.
A Wisconsin psychiatrist, Dr. Darold A. Treffert has been studying autism and Savant syndrome for more than 40 years. His work has been published in several journals, and most recently published his book “Islands of Genius: The Bountiful Mind of the Autistic, Acquired and Sudden Savant” in 2010. Dr. Treffert currently serves on the Marian University Board of Trustees and is actively involved in the Fond du Lac community. The Treffert Center invites individuals, families and communities worldwide to explore the potential of the human mind, focusing on strengths rather than limitations.
