Marian competes at National Model United Nations Conference

Model UN 2014FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Twelve students from Marian University participated in the National Model United Nations Conference from March 30 to April 3 in New York City to represent the country of Mongolia. This is the eighth year that Marian has sent a team to Nationals.

The Model UN conference offers students hands-on simulation experience in leadership and in finding "common ground" on complex topics, such as protection of human rights, peace and security, economic development, terrorism and fostering climate cooperation. Over 2,000 students from Europe, Asia, South America and the United States competed in this international event.

The conference simulation allows students to have the opportunity to discuss international issues with high ranking government officials and policy-makers. Students develop skills in negotiation, public speaking and effective communication, while working with other students to develop common positions for global improvement.

Competing for Marian University were Rebecca Tyson of Pleasant Prairie; Amanda Bergner of Appleton; Miranda Berndt of Ripon; Miya Brunke of Kewaskum; Jacobo Delgado of Chicago, Ill.; Brandon Krawczyk of Muskego; Casey Jean Lamberty of Madison; Kylie McArthur of Fond du Lac; Ryan Nowak of Kenosha; Samantha Reid of Green Bay; Megan Schimberg of Random Lake; and Jameris Smith of North Chicago, Ill. Students were accompanied by Elizabeth Manser Payne, assistant professor of business, and Dr. Jeffrey Reed, dean of the School of Business & Public Safety.
