Social and Behavioral Science

Why study the social and behavioral sciences?

 Common Grounds Prof.

The faculty of the School of Social and Behavioral Science help students develop an understanding of the complexity of human behavior by undertaking a critical analysis of interpersonal, social, political, and economic forces. Students are motivated to develop their skills for critical and independent thought. Students and faculty alike are encouraged to become compassionately involved in efforts that will lead to greater social justice and the realization of humankind's full potential.

While offering degrees in six distinct programs, students are challenged to increase their skills for critical independent thought. The school’s programs provides a major and minor in psychology; a major in social work; a major in political science; and additional minors in minority studies; pre-law; public administration and sociology.

Students are encouraged to participate in various social research opportunities that are coordinated by the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), which is a vehicle for promoting applied research in the social sciences. The SSRI fosters collaboration among faculty, students, and community agencies.

Students are also given the opportunity to participate in the Military Science Program (ROTC). To speak directly to the Marian University ROTC representative, please contact SFC. Hedy Vincent at (920) 923-8510 (Marian office) or (608) 852-5052 (cell).
