Sabres drop 3-0 contest at Adrian
(Adrian, MI) - Adrian College defeated Marian University 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to get the weekend sweep. Adrian moved to 12-9-2 on the season, while Marian fell to 2-17.
The Bulldogs scored once in the first period and twice in the second period. One of the Bulldogs second period goals came shorthanded.
Adrian outshot the Sabres 57-4 in the contest.
Kaytlin Ruzicka (Wauconda, IL) stopped an impressive 54 shots in the contest.

Sabres fall at Adrian
(Adrian, MI) - Marian University dropped their first game of their weekend series 6-1 to Adrian College on Saturday evening. The Bulldogs outshot the Sabres 44-10 and scored in each period in the victory.
The Bulldogs scored once in the first period and twice in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Marian's Aly Lund (Eau Claire, WI) put the Sabres on the board less than a minute into the third period. Alex DeBoer (Spring Lake Park, MN) assisted on Lund's goal.
The Bulldogs then went on to score three more times in the third to put the game away.
Melissa Calder (Fort Frances, ON) stopped 38 shots for the Sabres.

Sabres get the sweep at Finlandia
(Hancock, MI) - The Sabres have now won nine straight games as they defeated Finlandia University 6-2 on Saturday afternoon. Marian outshot the Lions 35-21 in the contest and improved to 14-6 overall and 13-2 in the MCHA.
Chris Thompson (Woodbury, MN) put the Sabres on the board 10:02 into the first period as Todd Collins (Whitby, ON) and Lane Boswell (Calgary, AB) assisted on the goal. The Lions evened the score later in the first period.

Ashbeck rallies Marian late
(Fond du Lac, WI) - Bryan Ashbeck (Wabeno, WI) scored nine points in the last 1:16 on Saturday as Marian rallied from a late ten-point deficit to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran 72-71. With the victory, the Sabres moved into a tie for fourth place in the NAC North. Marian is now 9-12 overall and 6-7 in the NAC.
The first half saw eight ties and neither team had a lead larger than three points. The Warriors hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to take a 34-32 lead into the locker room.

Warriors win big at Marian
(Fond du Lac, WI) - Wisconsin Lutheran built a 27-point lead at the break and coasted in the second half in their 82-48 victory at Sadoff Gymnasium. The Warriors shot 49% from the field and forced Marian into 26 turnovers in the contest.
The Warriors jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first 6:10 and led by double-digits the rest of the way. They shot an impressive 57% from the field in the half and forced Marian into 15 first half turnovers. More

Cormier helps lead Marian to victory
(Hancock, MI) - Justin Cormier (Calgary, AB) scored three points (2G/1A) on Friday evening to help lead Marian University to their eighth straight victory. Marian scored three times in both the second and third period to pull out the 6-2 victory on the road. With a victory tomorrow against the Lions, the Sabres would match their longest unbeaten streak since the 2000-2001 season. More

Rankin named to Academic All-District First Team

(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian's Logan Rankin (Algoma, WI) was honored Thursday as a First Team selection on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District men's basketball team. Rankin was a District 5 College Division men's basketball selection.
Rankin, a senior forward, is currently leading the Sabres in scoring (17.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg). He currently sits seventh on the all-time scoring list with 1,242 career points and is second all-time in rebounding with 676 rebounds.
The Business Administration and Marketing major sports a 3.82 grade-point-average as well.
By being named to the First Team, Rankin is now placed on the Academic All-American ballot.

Edgewood dominates boards in victory at Marian
(Fond du Lac, WI) - Edgewood College out-rebounded Marian 58-35 on Wednesday evening as they defeated the Sabres 73-50. The Eagles pulled down an impressive 28 offensive rebounds and turned them into 21 points. The Eagles earned the sweep in the season series and moved to 10-10 overall and 10-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference. Marian fell to 5-14 overall and 2-11 in the NAC. More

Big run in first half helps CUW defeat Marian
(Mequon, WI) - Concordia University went on a 17-0 run in the first half to help them defeat Marian 97-89 on Tuesday evening. With the game tied at fifteen with 10:22 to play in the first half, the Falcons went on their 17-0 run over the next 5:43.
Concordia-Wisconsin led Marian (8-12, 5-7 NAC) 46-27 at the half thanks to hot shooting. They shot 58% in the half and held Marian to just 30%. The Falcons also connected on 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line.

Two Sabres honored by the MCHA

(Fond du Lac, WI) - The MCHA announced its Players-of-the-Week Monday afternoon and the Sabres had two players honored. Freshman Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) was named the Player-of-the-Week, while fellow freshman Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) was named the Freshman-of-the-Week.
Dubetz recorded a natural hat trick in the third period Friday and was +2. He followed that up with a goal and three assists Saturday and was +2 again. For the weekend, he had four goals and three assists for a league-best seven points and was +4. Two of his goals on Friday and two of his assists Saturday came on the power play.
Bjerk started the weekend with a shutout Friday, stopping all 22 Lake Forest shots. He followed that up with two more shutout periods before giving up a pair of Forester power-play goals in the third, making 24 more saves in game two. For the weekend, he stopped 46 of 48 shots for a save percentage of .958.

Concordia wins the finale
(Mequon, WI) - Concordia University-Wisconsin earned the sweep of Marian University on Saturday evening as they topped the Sabres 7-0. The Falcons scored two shorthanded goals and added a power play goal in the victory.
The Falcons, who outshot the Sabres 60-14, scored once in the first and three times in both the second and third periods.
Jaime Athens scored twice for the Falcons, while Alyssa Isaackson and Sarah Lichtie both added two assists.

Sabres get the sweep on "Pink Out" Day

(Fond du Lac, WI) - Playing in pink uniforms to support the lives of those affected by cancer, Marian University defeated Lake Forest College on Saturday afternoon 7-2. The Sabres have now run their winning-streak to seven games and are 12-6 overall and 11-2 in the MCHA.
The Sabres dominated play again at the Blue Line Family Ice Center as they outshot the Foresters 61-26. The Sabres finished 3-for-7 on the power play and didn't allow Lake Forest to score until the third period.
Todd Collins (Whitby, ON) and Brendan Hull (Calgary, AB) each scored a pair of goals in the contest to aid in the victory. Hull also added an assist. Dakota Dubetz (Chestermore, AB) finished off a spectacular weekend as he finished with a goal and three assists. On Friday, he scored three goals.
Other goal-scorers for the Sabres in this one were Tommy Fitzpatrick (Ft. McMurray, AB) and Zack Fray (Cambridge, ON).
Brendan Roberts (Calgary, AB), Nick Henkemeyer (Prior Lake, MN), and Lane Boswell (Calgary, AB) all added two assists.
Alex Bjerk (Roseau, MN) picked up his second victory of the weekend as he recorded 24 saves.

Aurora pulls away late vs. Marian
(Aurora, IL) - Aurora University defended their home court on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Marian University 76-70. The Sabres pulled to within three points with 1:42 to play, but could get no closer. The Spartans are now 6-13 overall and 5-9 in the Northern Athletics Conference, while Marian is 5-13 overall and 2-10 in the NAC. More

Aurora dominates from deep in victory
(Aurora, IL) - One needs to look no further than the three-point field goal category to tell the difference in Marian's game vs. Aurora University on Saturday. The Spartans shot 18-for-36 from deep in the game, while the Sabres were 0-for-16 from behind-the-arc. The Spartans led 51-21 at the break and went on for the 84-57 victory.
Aurora finished the game shooting 30-for-67 (45%), while Marian shot 22-for-60 (37%). The Sabres out-rebounded the Spartans 41-35, but just had no answer after falling behind early.

Sabres continue hot streak vs. Lake Forest
(Lake Forest, IL) - Marian University has now won six straight contests as they upended Lake Forest College 6-0 on Friday evening. The Sabres moved to 11-6 overall and 10-2 in the MCHA with the victory.
After a scoreless first period, the Sabre attack exploded as they scored twice in the second period and put the game away with four goals in the final stanza. Marian outshot the Foresters 42-22 in the contest and converted twice on the power play.

Sabres shut out at CUW
(Mequon, WI) - Concordia University-Wisconsin defeated Marian University 3-0 on Thursday evening as they outshot the Sabres 40-12. The Falcons scored a goal in all three periods and finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Sabres were 0-for-6.
Alyssa Isaackson put the Falcons on the board with a power play goal in the 14th minute. Sarah Luberda assisted on the tally. In the second, Sarah Cole made it 2-0 with some help from Hilary Christiansen and Jaime Athens. Sarah Litchie added an insurance goal on the power play in the third. Alex Barton and Christiansen assisted on the goal.
Kaytlin Ruzicka (Wauconda, IL) stopped 37 shots in the contest.

Sabres win big at Silver Lake
(Manitowoc, WI) - Marian University defeated Silver Lake College 68-44 on Thursday evening to move to 5-12 on the season. The Sabres out-rebounded the Lakers 55-32 in the contest and outshot the Lakers (38%-30%) in the contest. Marian never trailed in the contest as the victory was their second largest margin of victory this season. More

Sabres win overtime thriller
(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University made it back-to-back victories on Wednesday evening as they won an exciting 72-65 overtime contest at Sadoff Gymnasium. The Sabres shot 50% (25-for-50) from the field in the contest and had four players score more than thirteen points to help move back to .500 in the Northern Athletics Conference. The Sabres are now 8-10 overall and 5-5 in the NAC. By defeating the conference leaders, the Sabres moved to within a game of first place in the NAC North. More

Sabres fall at Maranatha
(Watertown, WI) - Marian University fell 49-40 on Tuesday evening at Maranatha Baptist Bible College. The Sabres turned the ball over 28 times and shot just 15-for-58 (26%) from the field in the loss.
Marian (4-12, 2-9 NAC) opened up the game on a 5-0 run and led late in the first half, but trailed 25-23 at the break.

Thompson saves Marian late in Saturday's contest
(Fond du Lac, WI) - Chris Thompson (Woodbury, MN) scored a goal with just :40 remaining on Saturday to give the Sabres a 5-4 victory over winless Concordia University-Wisconsin. The Sabres have now won five-in-a-row, which is their longest winning-streak of the season and are 10-6 overall and 9-2 in the MCHA.
Marian led 4-1 with less than ten minutes to play in the contest, but the Falcons fought back and scored three times in just over five minutes to tie the game.

(Fond du Lac, WI) - Alverno College defeated Marian University 66-42 on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 14-0 run to open the second half. The Inferno led only 27-22 at the break, but went on the big run over the first 5:08 of the second half to take control of the game. More

Foresters get the sweep of Marian
(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian University played well on Saturday, but fell 3-0 to NCHA-leader, Lake Forest College, at the Blue Line Family Ice Center. The Foresters once again had a big advantage in shots as they outshot the Sabres 52-14.
The Foresters used their first period to gain momentum in the contest. They tallied two goals in the period. Sam Herron scored at the 10:14 mark and Lynn Switaj scored at the 12:53 mark.
