(Fond du Lac, WI) - The Northern Athletics Conference has announced the All-Northern Athletics Conference awards for the 2009 baseball season. Marian had four players honored, with senior James Goodfellow (Naperville, IL) leading the way. Goodfellow earned First Team All-NAC honors, while senior Jeremy Bartelt (Wisconsin Rapids, WI) and freshman Anthony Porcaro (Burlington, WI) earned Honorable Mention honors. Porcaro and Jace Unrein (Racine, WI) were both named to the All-Freshman Team, while Bartelt was named to the NAC Sportsmanship Team.
Goodfellow finished the season hitting .406 and led the team in many offensive categories including at-bats (160), hits (65), doubles (10), triples (3), RBI's (50), total bases (96), and slugging percentage (.600). He also slugged 5 home runs. The catcher/outfielder finished fifth in the conference in batting average, hits, and RBI's.
Bartelt, a shortstop, finished the season with a .386 batting average and was second on the team in hits (61) and RBI's (41). He led the team with 57 runs and tied Goodfellow with 10 doubles and led the team with 23 stolen bases. His 23 stolen bases placed him third in the NAC. The award marks the third straight year he has been recognized by the NAC. In 2007 and 2008 he was a First Team Second Baseman.
Porcaro, a designated hitter, hit .377 in his rookie campaign. He was second on the team in runs with 44 and third on the team in hits (58). He recorded 9 doubles and was second on the team with 13 stolen bases. He led the team with 27 walks.
Unrein led the team with a .420 batting average and also fielded a perfect 1.000 at first base, where he had 100 chances.
The Sabres finished 20-20 overall and 11-11 in the Northern Athletics Conference.
