Kriese and Grable honored by NSCAA

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recently announced their All-Region Teams and Marian had two players recognized. Junior Kim Kriese (Stevens Point, WI) was named to as a NSCAA Third Team All-Central Region, while senior Danielle Grable (Neenah, WI) was named to the Honorable Mention team. Eleven players from the state of Wisconsin were recognized, with four of them being Northern Athletics Conference players.

Kriese, a Science/Psychology major, was second on the team in scoring with 28 points (11G/6A). She was a NAC Second Team selection in 2009. In 2007 and 2008 she was named to the NAC First Team. She is currently tied for second on the all-time scoring list with 119 points (50G/19A).

Grable, a Nursing major, led the team in scoring this past season with 31 points (13G/5A). She started in all 19 games and was also a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection. Her 31 points placed her ninth in total points in the conference. She was a NAC Second Team selection in 2008.

The Sabres 11-7-1 overall this past season and 7-5 in the NAC. Marian advanced to the second round of the 2009 NAC Tournament after defeating Concordia University-Wisconsin 2-1. They fell to Aurora University in the semifinals.

Sabres earn Academic Award

The Marian University women's soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America recently as they were one of 327 women's soccer programs across America to post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Sabres finished the season with a 11-7-1 record and were 7-5 in the Northern Athletics Conference. Marian advanced to the second round of the NAC Tournament, where they fell to Aurora University.

Five Sabres earn postseason honors

(Waukesha, WI) - The Northern Athletics Conference has announced the awards for the 2009 women's soccer season, as voted on by the conference's head coaches. Included are 14-member First and Second All-NAC Teams, honorable mention selections, a 14-member All-Freshman Team, a 12-member All-Sportsmanship Team and the four individual awards of Defensive Player, Offensive Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year.

Marian's Danielle Grable (Neenah, WI) was named to the NAC First Team, while Mariel Bartolutti (Fond du Lac, WI), Sara Hoffman (Wisconsin Rapids, WI), and Kim Kriese (Stevens Point, WI) were honorable mention selections. Brittany Graham (Alvin, WI) was named to the All-Freshman Team.

Grable, a senior, led the team in scoring this past season with 31 points (13G/5A). She started in all 19 games and was recently named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team. Her 31 points placed her ninth in total points in the conference. She was a Second Team selection a year ago.

Bartolutti, a junior, was a force all season on the defensive end as she started all 19 games. She scored two goals and added an assist. Hoffman, a sophomore defender earned her second straight NAC Second Team selection in as many years. She scored seven points (2G/3A) for the Sabres. Hoffman was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. Kriese was second on the team in scoring with 28 points (11 G/6A). She was a NAC First Team selection in 2007 and 2008. The junior is currently tied for second on the all-time scoring list at Marian with 119 points (50G/19A).

Graham was named to the All-Freshman Team as she was third on the team in scoring. She recorded 10 goals and 1 assist for 21 points.

Women's Soccer (November 3, 2009)
Marian's season comes to an end in NAC semis
(Aurora, IL) -
Aurora's Haley Pschirrer recorded a hat-trick on Tuesday to help Aurora University defeat Marian University 4-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament semifinals. Pschirrer scored twice in the first period and added a goal early in the third to help seal the victory. Aurora will now face Dominican in the NAC Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Sabres finished the season 11-7-1 overall, while Aurora is now 15-5 overall.

Pschirrer scored just 1:53 into the game off an assist from Samantha Dykema. She then scored again in the 38th minute off an assist from Kaitlyn Crohan. More

Grable garners CoSIDA honor

(Fond du Lac, WI) - Marian senior Danielle Grable (Neenah, WI) was recently named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team. Grable was named as a Second Team selection for her work both on the field and in the classroom.

Grable, a forward for the Sabres, helped the Sabres win their first-ever Northern Athletics Conference Tournament game on Saturday, as she scored one of the two Sabre goals. She currently leads the team in points with 31, as she has scored 13 goals and added 5 assists. She has scored a goal in nine straight games and in ten of the last eleven games.

In the classroom, the Nursing major sports a 3.68 grade-point-average.

Grable and the Sabres will take on Aurora University on Tuesday, November 3 in the semifinals of the NAC Tournament.

 

Women's Soccer (October 31, 2009)
Sabres upset CUW
(Mequon, WI) -
 The sixth-seeded Sabres upset #3-seed, Concordia University-Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon 2-1 to advance in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. Marian's Mariel Bartolutti (Fond du Lac, WI) scored the game-winner with just 15:39 left to help the Sabres survive. Marian will now play at #1-seeded, Aurora University on Tuesday at 1:00 PM.

Danielle Grable (Neenah, WI) put Marian ahead 1-0 in the 13th minute as she found the back of the net. The Falcons answered back seven minutes later as Emily Waldorf  scored. More
