Marian students take first place in Wisconsin Stock Market Competition

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Three students from the Marian University School of Business and Public Safety received the first-place award in the Wisconsin College/Technical College/Adult Division of the Stock Market Simulation sponsored by Economics Wisconsin. Ashley Grahl of West Bend, Diana Muehlbauer of Fond du Lac and Rebecca Tyson of Pleasant Prairie were members of the first-place team.

Each team managed $100,000 in an online investment portfolio for 10 weeks during the fall semester, with awards given to students managing portfolios with the highest end values.

The students participated in the Stock Market Simulation as part of a project for their investment class taught by Katherine Schuessler, professor and director of the finance program. In building a portfolio, students research and evaluate stocks and mutual funds and strive to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation.
