Marian University Hosts Jacqueline Maggiore with “Vessel of Clay” Presentation

March 7, 2012

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — As a part of Women’s History Month, Marian University will host author and biographer Jacqueline Maggiore on March 22 at 12:45 p.m. in Stayer Center 217/218.

Maggiore will discuss “Vessel of Clay: The Inspirational Journey of Sister Carla,” her biographical account of childhood friend Sr. Carla Piette, a Maryknoll sister who is remembered for her work in El Salvador as the “Martyr of Charity.”

Piette volunteered as a missionary during the Salvadoran Civil War from March of 1980 until her death in a flash flood five months later. Maggiore, who grew up with Piette in Appleton, was inspired by her friend’s courage and did extensive research in the Maryknoll archives and with Piette’s fellow missionaries and family who were influenced by her profound faith, compassion and humor.

In addition to “Vessel,” Maggiore is the co-author of “Fluent in Faith: the Gift of Mary McCormick,” an upcoming biography of another influential Wisconsin missioner. Maggiore received her undergraduate degree from Marquette University and has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She is active with the Maryknoll Affiliates as well as with her local parish and local peace and justice efforts.
