Fond du Lac, Wis. — Marian University will host its 4th Annual Criminal Justice Camp for high school students from June 20-22. The camp will be held on the Fond du Lac campus and is open to high school students who will be juniors or seniors this coming fall.
Campers will participate in a variety of activities and will also have the opportunity to see a live demonstration/presentation by Special Agent Matthew Joy from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation. Special Agent Joy will discuss Internet Crimes and the Perils of Social Media, with a second presentation free and open to the public on Tuesday, June 21 at 6:00 p.m., in the Marian University Stayer Center auditorium.
Special Agent Joy began his career in law enforcement in 1999 as a Special Agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice assigned to the Milwaukee Regional Office – Narcotics Bureau. In 2002, he transferred to the Appleton Regional Office and continued his assignment to the Narcotics Bureau. In 2008, he transferred to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force within the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
Since his transfer to the ICAC Task Force, Agent Joy has been involved with various types of investigations, including child pornography file sharing/possession via peer-to-peer, e-mail, and chat; CyberTip referrals from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and undercover internet investigations utilizing social networking and chat.
Agent Joy has been involved in educating parents and children about internet safety, and has presented to law enforcement, educator, and social service groups on various internet-related topics. Joy holds a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa; and received a M.S. degree in Criminal Justice Sciences from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.
