Marian University names Watry as April Sabre of the Month

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Marian University has named Dr. Deborah Watry, professor and chair of the School of Education’s Teacher Education Program, as its April Sabre of the Month.

I feel very special to have been nominated and selected for this award. I am proud to be a part of the Marian community and helping to foster life-long learning.”

Watry, an alumna of Marian’s doctoral program, has been employed at Marian for two years. The University values her dedication toward her work in supporting the education and training for new teachers, in addition to reviewing and working with education staff to strengthen the teacher education program.

The Sabre of the Month Employee Recognition Program honors faculty and staff who exemplify the Marian University core values – community, learning, service, social justice and spiritual traditions.

Although founded as a women’s college, Hal F. Hornby, superintendent of Fond du Lac rural schools, was the first male student to attend classes in 1940. He attended art and music classes with his wife (Source: Marian University Archives).
