FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Marian University hosted the 2011 Wisconsin HR Games and Student Conference on March 4 and 5. Over 75 students participated in the games and conference.
The Marian University team in the HR games earned a fourth place rating. The team consisted of Jenney Essmann from Fond du Lac and Charles Rechner from Green Bay. Marian has competed in the HR Games since 2004.
First place was awarded to the University of Wisconsin at Madison, second place to the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and third place to St. Norbert College.
Through the HR games, student members of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) have an opportunity to show their human resources related knowledge by competing against college teams from across the state of Wisconsin. The student conference is also a great opportunity for students to network with other students and human resource professionals. The conference keynote speaker was Alonzo Kelley, president of Kelly Leadership Group, LLC, who spoke on the topic of “Negotiating the Applicant Pool.” Other conference speakers addressed topics on FMLA, selling yourself to get a job, terminations, HR law and collective bargaining.
The Marian team was coached by Beth Bayless, adjunct instructor at Marian and advisor of the SHRM Chapter.
