Artie Kempner to keynote Marian University 2011 Business & Industry Awards

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Marian University will hold its twenty ninth annual Business & Industry awards dinner at the Stayer Center for Technology & Executive Learning on Thursday, March 3, at 5:45 p.m.

The theme of this year’s event is Sports and Philanthropy: The Business of Giving Back. Keynote speaker, Artie Kempner, is the director for Fox Sports coverage of the NFL and NASCAR, as well as being the lead director for the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football game of the week.He began his broadcasting career at CBS Sports in 1982 and later joined Fox Sports in 1994.Over the years, he has received nine Emmy awards for his work.He has directed college football, US Open Tennis, the Masters and PGA Championships, Olympic Alpine skiing and Olympic Hockey. He is the world feed director for Super Bowl XLV in Dallas.

Kempner is the founding president of Autism Delaware.He is a former board member of the Autism Society of America and a board member for Autism Speaks. He chairs the “Drive for Autism,” a golf event that has raised $3 million in the last nine years. He has been active in fundraising efforts for Autism Delaware and Autism Speaks.

Kempner played football at the University of Florida and graduated in 1981 with a degree in journalism and communication.

The recipients of the 2011 Business & Industry Awards have operated successful businesses and have been heavily involved in their communities.Awards will be presented in five categories – Business of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Economic Development Award, Special Achievement Award, and the George Becker Spirit Award.

Recent past recipients of Business & Industry Awards have included:Oshkosh Corporation for Business of the Year; Orion Energy Systems for Entrepreneur of the Year; The NEW North, Inc., for Economic Development; United Hearts for Health forSpecial Achievement; and Wayne Matzke for the George Becker Spirit Award.
