FOND DU LAC, Wis - Marian University is pleased to announce the hiring of Jason Murphy as the new women's
soccer head coach. Murphy will become the fourth women's soccer head coach in the program's twenty-one year history and will begin duties immediately.
Murphy has spent the past two seasons as an assistant women's soccer coach at the University of Chicago. Murphy was responsible for day-to-day operations, but more specifically recruiting perspective student-athletes. He helped lead the Maroons to a 28-10-3 record the last two seasons as they were consistenly ranked in the NCAA Division III Top 25. The Maroons qualified for the NCAA Tournament both seasons.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to lead the next chapter of the Marian University women's soccer program," stated Murphy. "My wife and I are looking forward to moving back to Wisconsin and becoming part of the Marian family."
Murphy was also an assistant coach at UW-Stevens Point in 2003 and 2004. He helped lead the Pointers to two conference
championships, two NCAA appearances, and an overall record of 31-8-5.
"I believe having the opportunity to coach at two very successful Division III programs will help in my transition as the
head coach here at Marian," stated Murphy. "I intend to bring dedicated student-athletes to Marian who will not only improve the soccer team, but the entire community."
Marian University Director of Athletics, Doug Hammonds, believes Murphy will be a great addition to the Sabre Athletic Department. "Jason stood out from the beginning of the search process," stated Hammonds. "I believe the experiences he gained at the University of Chicago and UW-Stevens Point have been a benefit to him and will help the continued growth of the Marian University women's soccer program."
