FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University has created a new certificate program in Palliative Care that will be available for students in September 2010.
The focus of the Sr. Mary Agreda Palliative Care Certificate Program is to promote optimal care for the serious, chronic and/or terminally ill within the patient setting. The program examines the multidimensional effects of aggressive disease treatment, as well as end-of-life care.
"Nursing focuses on the whole person and their quality of life. The Sr. Mary Agreda Palliative Care Certificate Program
provides the nurse with the tools to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families experiencing acute and chronic illnesses," states Dr. Julie Luetschwager, dean of the School of Nursing.
The program consists of three, 3-credit courses, with each course being five weeks in length, and includes in-class sessions and online instruction. Courses provide information, exploration and discussions of evidence-based palliative care that an RN can use to enhance her or hiscurrent practice and improve patient care.
