27th annual Sabre Run/Walk April 28

FOND DU LAC, Wis.-Marian College's 27th annual Sabre Run/Walk will be held on theMarian campus Saturday, April 28.

This year's community event, which will begin near SadoffGymnasium on the Marian campus, will begin with registration at8:30 a.m., followed by the five-mile run and three-mile walk at9:30 a.m. The run and walk will be followed by a two-mile open run,one-mile run for runners 12 and younger, and one-third-mile fun runfor runners 6 and younger.

Plaques will be given to the top male and female runners andwalkers in the open events (five-mile and two-mile run andthree-mile walk) as well as the one-mile run. Medals orcertificates will be presented to all youth participating in theone-third-mile fun run. Runners and walkers can choose to receive awhite long-sleeve T-shirt with the 27th Annual Sabre Run logo onthe front, designed by Marian Sport and Recreation Managementstudents. The first 100 runners will receive a free game of bowlingfrom Ledgeview Lanes. A raffle for prizes from area businesses willbe available following the runs.

Proceeds from the event benefit Marian College athletics,principally the scoreboard at the new Herr-BakerField.

Registration forms will also be available atMarian's Administration Building and Common Grounds Coffee House,the YMCA in Fond du Lac and the City of Fond du Lac RecreationDepartment.

Although founded as a women’s college, Hal F. Hornby, superintendent of Fond du Lac rural schools, was the first male student to attend classes in 1940. He attended art and music classes with his wife (Source: Marian University Archives).
